What TwistedWX does
Forecast.Drive.Document.
A chase day is a forecast, a long drive and a decision made in the last twenty minutes. This is what comes out of it.
Chasing
Targets get picked the night before and revised all morning, then it is a drive — sometimes across three states — to be in the right place when a storm goes up.
Live coverage
When the setup justifies it, the chase goes out live on YouTube. No studio and no script: the road, the radar and whatever is happening out the window.
Documenting
Photography and video from the field, and an archive of what each chase day actually produced rather than only the days that went well.

One person, one vehicle,a lot of driving
Taylor WelkaStorm chaser · Founder of TwistedWX
TwistedWX is Taylor Welka. He picks the target the night before, drives to it, and points a camera at whatever the atmosphere does once he gets there.
Some days that is close to home in Ohio. Other days it is not — in May 2026 it meant leaving a day early for Nebraska, then four straight chase days across the central Plains.
Most of it goes out live. A warning on a map is an abstraction until somebody is standing underneath the storm telling you what it is actually doing. Whatever survives the drive home ends up in the archive here.

Storm chasing,turned intoopen science
WxEye is a community-driven storm research mission. It live-streams and reports severe weather, flies weather balloons and deploys probes into storms, streaming the data back as it is collected.
- Live severe weather reporting from the field
- Weather balloons and probes flown into storms
- Observations published openly as they are collected
TwistedWX recorded part of a WxEye / RISE-26 launch operation and the data collection effort as the balloon was prepared and sent aloft. Archive entry
